Dear Family and Friends, The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) has given me a powerful tool: the ability to honor and remember Betsy and all those we know affected by cancer by participating in the 12th annual Lights of Hope!

Since the event, the ACS CAN volunteer team and I have been busy advocating with State and Federal lawmakers.

ACS CAN volunteers worked with State Legislators to pass televisit reform to protect immunocompromised cancer patients, collaborated with State House Representatives to pass HB135, the Co-Pay Accumulator revision to receive patients from insurance over billing and HB 608, requiring Medicare to cover Biomarker Testing if prescribed by a patient’s Oncologist.

On the Federal front, we are actively advocating for Ohio's Senators to co-sponsor the DIVERSE Trials Act, written to address some of these barriers by reducing barriers to enrollment by taking care of some of the non-medical costs associated with participation. We also have been pushing for passage of Medicare Multicancer Early Detection Coverage Act (MCED) and, an initiative that means so much to me,  the Palliative Care and Hospice Education and Training Act (PCHETA).

This year's Lights of Hope Celebration, supporting all the advocacy of ACS CAN volunteers, will be held on August 16th, in memory of Betsy's birthday, starting at 6:30p.

There is a change of venue for our Celebration this year. We will be holding the event at Stewart's Caring Place. Betsy and I began supporting this phenomenal organization long before her diagnosis. We understood what an incredible asset this is to our community. I am thrilled and honored to be hosting Lights of Hope and what it stands for at Stewart's new facility.

The address is 3501 Ridge Park Dr, Fairlawn, OH 44333

Do you know a survivor, someone in treatment, someone who passed away from cancer, or someone who served as a caregiver? Honor them today by dedicating a Light of Hope with a minimum $10 donation and help up send a visible reminder to Congress that they need to make fighting cancer a legislative priority.

If you have interest in sponsoring this year's Lights of Hope, please reach out to me at vmarchetta26@gmail.com for more information.
