In May, I became a Legislative Ambassador with the American Cancer Society's Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN). "Don't Count The Days, Make The Days Count", the quote I borrowed from Mohammad Ali, was the request I made of every person listening to my eulogy. I talked the talk. Now it is time to walk the walk. Because, going back to an Ali quote, "SERVICE TO OTHERS IS THE RENT YOU PAY FOR YOUR ROOM HERE ON EARTH!"
On September 12, ACS CAN will host its 10th annual Lights of Hope event. This year will be truly special as we host Lights of Hope Across America. Lights of Hope bags dedicated to Betsy and all other loved ones who have been touched by cancer will be displayed in communities from coast to coast.
In conjunction with this event, William, Amanda and I will be hosting Lights of Hope at our home on August 26th at 7:00p, marking 1 year after Betsy passed away. For a minimum of a $10 donation you can dedicate a bag to Betsy or any Loved One you choose and help us send a visible reminder to Congress that they need to do more to help battle cancer. Each bag will have an image of Betsy on one side. The other side will be blank. That is where you can write a message, memory or prayer for Betsy, a family member or friend you want to recognize.
On August 26th, if you are local, we invite you to join us at our home to place the memorial bags, lining our driveway. At dusk, we will illuminate all our Lights of Hope. I will capture this special event and post it for all on September 12th.
If you are not local, I know we will feel your presence and prayers. Please send me your message, and I will create your memorial and place it on your behalf.
In 2020 we will host a Lights of Hope live stream. Highlighting stories of loved ones who have fought cancer and survived and remembers those who lost the battle.
I’ll be honoring Betsy, family and friends at this very special event. I’d love for those you know who have been touched by cancer - friends and loved ones - to be part of it too.
