Dear Family and Friends,
We are excited to share with you that we are hosting a fundraiser for an organization very important to us – the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN).
ACS CAN is the nation’s leading cancer advocacy organization; encouraging lawmakers to support policies that lead to the prevention, early detection and treatment of cancer. As a wonderful colleague of ours likes to say, ACS CAN is the voice of cancer patients and their families in the halls of government. Here in Wyoming, we have focused on passing a wide range of public policies to help cancer patients including legislation creating a task force to study how palliative care services can benefit patients during treatment and survivorship. We also fought hard to protect funding for the Breast and Cervical Cancer Treatment Program, which serves uninsured and underinsured women.
Another huge victory was passing oral chemotherapy parity (fairness) in Wyoming. This law keeps those in treatment from having to choose between oral and IV chemotherapy based on cost. Now folks can work with their doctors to select the best solution based on effectiveness and not on cost. In recent years, we have also fought to tax e-cigarettes to protect our Wyoming youth from this dangerous epidemic.
Future work for Wyoming ACS CAN includes access to care. Everyone in Wyoming should have access to cancer screenings and affordable cancer treatment. It is estimated that more than 20,000 Wyoming residents currently fall "in the gap" and cannot obtain affordable coverage. Medicaid Expansion would cover these residents in need. Passing Medicaid Expansion would be a huge step in the right direction, especially during these difficult times.
We are excited to have you as part of this special event! Together, we can help saves lives from cancer.
