It is a year of uncertainty, challenge and change. Despite world events that impacted the entire nation September 2020, advocates from every congressional district will participate virtually in the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network Leadership Summit in Washington D.C., and engage Members of Congress in the fight against cancer.
Our federal government plays a critical role in reducing the cancer burden on this country. Advocates will meet with lawmakers to demand that Congress make cancer a national priority. In addition, we encourage legislators to help by funding lifesaving cancer research and programs at the National Institutes of Health, the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Several years ago my mom went through the best treatment available for pancreas and liver cancer, but she ultimately lost her battle in six short months. Mom’s memory and the celebration of many friends winning their fight is the motivation needed to continue working towards a cure.
We will be holding a ceremony to honor and remember those that have battled or are currently battling cancer. ‘Lights of Hope’ will hold a virtual broadcast of displays in every congressional district during the Summit. I ask that you sponsor me with a financial donation of $20 or more and decorated bags will be displayed as you wish, to honor or to remember your family member, a loved one, or a friend.
Thank you in advance for your support!
