Together we can save lives!
Dear [Decision Maker],
This week, more than 100 American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) volunteers will be meeting their New Jersey lawmakers to talk about cancer issues. As someone in your district who cares about cancer, I am writing to echo their message asking for your help in maintaining access to vital cancer screening services and providing a smoke-free environment in Atlantic City for casino workers and patrons. These are critical necessary steps in providing a safer future for all New Jerseyans. At this important moment, we must do everything in our power to keep our communities healthy and safe. Yet here in New Jersey, racial/ethnic minorities, the poor, and other medically underserved communities face higher rates of cancer, later stage cancer diagnoses, and higher death rates for many cancers. Please help make cancer prevention and detection, and a safer work environment for casino workers a top priority in 2022.
You can do this by:- Supporting increasing the current allocation for the New Jersey Cancer Education and Early Detection Program (NJCEED) from $3.1 Million to $5 Million- Supporting/co-sponsoring legislation which will eliminate patient cost-sharing for colonoscopies following a positive stool-based screening test for colorectal cancer- Supporting/co-sponsoring S264/A 2151 which would permanently close the loophole that allows smoking, including marijuana, inside casinos
With thousands of New Jersey residents out of work and having lost their employee sponsored health coverage, it is more important than ever that we do all we can to prevent cancer and ensure access to early detection programs. Together we can save lives and health care dollars. Thank you and I look forward to your reply.
Sincerely,[Your Name] [Your Address] [City, State ZIP][Your Email]
