Dear [Decision Maker],

I am grateful for the bipartisan support that Congress has shown for cancer research. Passing fiscal year 2022 appropriations is critical for our country. Delaying the funding increases for the National Cancer Institute (NCI) is causing reductions and impacting essential awards, cancer centers, and clinical trials that are vital for progress as the fight against cancer continues.

Additionally, addressing the backlog of cancer screenings due to COVID-19 for those without adequate health coverage will place a new burden on existing cancer screening programs, which have long been underfunded. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC's) programs help ensure that Americans have options for cancer screening regardless of income or insurance status. Increased investment in the equitable application of existing cancer control interventions as spearheaded by the CDC will accelerate progress in the fight against cancer. I therefore ask that you support at least $559 million for cancer programs at the CDC.

Sincerely,
