Please co-sponsor bills S4807/A6476 to authorize pharmacists to administer all CDC approved vaccines.

Dear [Decision Maker],

As an American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) volunteer and your constituent, I urge you to co-sponsor bill S4807 Stavisky/A6476 Hyndman which would authorize pharmacists to administer all vaccines approved by the CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, including the HPV Vaccine.

At this critical moment, building a strong public health infrastructure is key to decreasing health disparities in our community. Pharmacists are a vital partner in building and maintaining the health and safety of our communities. Since 2008, pharmacists have been allowed to administer certain vaccines; however, in New York they are not allowed to administer the HPV vaccine.

HPV, or Human Papillomavirus, is a common virus that can cause 6 types of cancer. Eight out of ten people will get HPV at some point in their lives. Almost 35,000 men and women get HPV cancers in the United States every year. While there is no treatment for HPV, there is a vaccine that can prevent it.

With 90% of the nation's population living within five miles of a pharmacy, letting pharmacists administer lifesaving vaccinations like the HPV vaccine will remove barriers to vaccinations. With more New Yorkers turning to their local pharmacy for medical information, advice, and services, it is imperative we let pharmacists administer the HPV vaccine.

New York is only one of two states that still does not allow pharmacists to administer the HPV vaccine. I urge you to improve access and put the health of New Yorkers first by co-sponsoring S4807 Stavisky/A6476 Hyndman.
