Please make cancer prevention, detection, and treatment a top priority
Dear [Decision Maker],
I'm writing today as a New York resident and a volunteer for the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) to urge you to make cancer prevention, detection, and treatment a top priority in 2021. With 117,910 New Yorkers diagnosed with cancer in 2020 we can't afford to halt future progress. As you finish preparing your Executive Budget for this year, please make cancer prevention, detection, and treatment a top priority by:- Increasing the state's cigarette tax by $1.00 as well as the tax on other tobacco products to provide for tax parity with cigarettes. - Maintaining funds for the state's Tobacco Control Program to help protect our kids from Big Tobacco.- Maintaining funds for the state's Cancer Services Program to provide mammograms, cervical and colorectal cancer screenings to women and men across New York who otherwise might not be able to receive a cancer screening.- Removing additional barriers to cancer treatment by eliminating insurance programs like copay accumulators that can create a financial barrier for cancer patients- Removing barriers to clinical trial participation for Medicaid enrollees to improve access to potentially lifesaving treatments and strengthen research outcomes at no additional cost to the state.Together we can save lives and health care dollars. Thank you and I look forward to your reply.
Sincerely,[Your Name] [Your Address] [City, State ZIP][Your Email]
