Please Preserve Cancer Screening and Tobacco Control Programs
Dear [Decision Maker],
I'm writing today as your constituent and a volunteer for the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) to thank you for your leadership during this most difficult time in our state and to ask for your help in continuing to address the cancer pandemic. As our state continues to deal with COVID-19, we must also continue our fight against cancer. This year, more than 117,000 New Yorkers will learn of their cancer diagnosis and an estimated 34,500 will lose their lives to cancer. Low income, Black and Hispanic communities have been especially impacted, and those disparities need to be addressed. I am asking you to preserve funding in the budget for the Cancer Services Program as well as the Tobacco Control Program. These programs provide lifesaving and cost-saving services to New Yorkers in need. We know that when cancer is detected and treated early, the cost of treatment is lower and the potential for survival is greater. I know you have a lot of weighty decisions to make on behalf of your constituents, including cancer patients, survivors, and caregivers. Funding lifesaving programs and passing strong legislation that will prevent cancer are especially important to me and my family. ACS CAN looks forward to working with you to improve the health of New Yorkers like me. We need your help to make fighting cancer a priority now more than ever. Thank you again for your service to our state.
Sincerely,[Your Name] [Your Address] [City, State ZIP][Your Email]
