Please make cancer screening a funding priority

Dear [Decision Maker],

I'm writing today as your constituent and a volunteer for the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) to thank you for your leadership during this most difficult time in our state and to ask for your help in continuing to address the cancer pandemic.

As our state continues to deal with COVID-19, we must also continue our fight against cancer. This year, more than 28,570 Alabamians will learn of their cancer diagnosis, and an estimated 10,530 will lose their lives to cancer. We are doing many things well in our state, thanks to the votes you and your colleagues have made - but these cancer statistics are grim and we need your help to change them.

I am asking you to please preserve funding for FY21 for the Alabama Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program as well as the statewide colorectal and prostate cancer screening programs. ACS CAN is also recommending $200,000 increases for each of those programs in order to provide lifesaving and cost-saving services to more Alabamians. We know that when cancer is detected and treated early, the cost of treatment is lower and the potential for survival is greater.

ACS CAN looks forward to working with you to improve the health of Alabamians like me. We need your help to make fighting cancer a priority now more than ever. Thank you again for your service to our state.
