Support SB 248 to raise the tobacco sale age to 21
Dear [Decision Maker],
As a volunteer for the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, and your constituent, I am writing to ask you to please support SB 248: An Act increasing the age for sales and possession of tobacco products.
SB 248 would prohibit stores from selling cigarettes, e-cigarettes and other tobacco products to people under age 21 by increasing the statewide minimum age of sale for tobacco products to 21. This is critical in the state because:-23.8% of high school students in New Hampshire use e-cigarettes, more than the national average; -almost half of 8th grade students and two thirds of 10th grade students say it's easy to get cigarettes from older siblings and acquaintances; -New Hampshire spends $729 million annually on health care costs directly caused by smoking; and-It is important that New Hampshire law mirrors federal to alleviate any confusion retailers may have.
The statistics are clear: 95% of all adult smokers began smoking before or at age 21. Please support SB 248 to protect New Hampshire youth from a lifelong addiction to a deadly product.I look forward to your support on this important issue.
Sincerely,[Your Name] [Your Address] [City, State ZIP][Your Email]
