sign hb 1080

Dear [Decision Maker],

As a Hoosier and volunteer for the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, I urge you to sign House Bill 1080, a bill that received overwhelming, bi-partisan support in the legislature.

HB 1080 would lower the covered age of colorectal cancer screenings from 50 to 45-years old. In 2020, an estimated 3,410 Hoosiers will be diagnosed with colorectal cancer and an estimated 1,170 will die from this preventable disease. We need to do lower the age to increase the prevention & early detection of colorectal cancer.

About 60% of colorectal cancer deaths could be prevented with timely screenings. Colorectal cancers found at an early state are much easier to treat and have a significantly lower financial burden on the patient, the insurance provider, and the taxpayer. For example, a Stage IV diagnosis is 150% more costly than treating an early, Stage I colorectal cancer.

I urge you to sign HB 1080 which will not only help prevent or catch colorectal cancer early, which will save Hoosier lives, but also save patients' and taxpayer dollars.

Sincerely,
