Please Increase Funding for Tobacco Control and Prevention
Dear [Decision Maker],
Please invest in Delaware's health by increasing funding for tobacco prevention and cessation programs, allowing our state to continue funding our tobacco control and prevention program at over 50% of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommended level. Last year, we finally turned the corner and increased funding for tobacco control. We need to keep that commitment going. In 2020, without further intervention, 1400 Delawareans will die from smoking related causes, with 30% of cancer deaths attributed to tobacco use.
Recently, the U.S. Surgeon General released a new report on e-cigarettes to address the significant health threat e-cigarettes pose to our nation's youth and young adults. The report states that the use of any products containing nicotine among youth, including e-cigarettes, is unsafe. This report is the latest example of why states must continue to invest in comprehensive tobacco prevention and cessation programs to help reduce all forms of tobacco use, including e-cigarettes for youth and young adults.
Please help prevent youth from ever using tobacco products and becoming at high risk for tobacco caused cancer and other chronic diseases. Support an increase in tobacco prevention and control funding.
Sincerely,[Your Name] [Your Address] [City, State ZIP][Your Email]
