Dear [Decision Maker],
I am writing to urge you to do the right thing and vote YES on including e-cigarettes in and closing loopholes in the Cheyenne Smoke-free Ordinance. As a constituent and a volunteer with the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, I am looking to you to protect the health of Cheyenne residents.
I also understand that the language of the Ordinance is critical to its' success. Unfortunately, there are loopholes in the existing proposed Amendment that provide a way for the law to be undermined. As such, please watch for and support amendments that address loopholes in the language of the bill.
E-cigarettes pose potential health risks to both users and nonusers. The Surgeon General has determined that, "[e]-cigarette aerosol is not harmless. It can contain harmful and potentially harmful constituents, including nicotine." Accordingly, prohibiting the use of e-cigarettes in workplaces including restaurants, bars, and and other spaces open to the public can and will protect the public health by preventing nonusers from being exposed to nicotine and other potentially harmful chemicals in these products.
Again, I urge you to please support including e-cigarettes and closing loopholes in our smoke-free ordinance so our city will be a healthier place to live and breathe. Thank you for your time and consideration of this critical matter.
