Governor Cuomo, please sign the mid-year formulary bill!
Dear [Decision Maker],
I am writing to urge you to sign S.2849-A/A.2969-A, the mid-year formulary bill, into law. This legislation restricts the practice of mid-year prescription drug formulary changes. Currently, health insurance companies can (and do) make multiple drug formulary changes in the middle of a contract year. This can result in cost increases for medications, or elimination of coverage for certain medication. Cancer is often complicated and expensive to treat. As a result, cancer patients carefully consider their health insurance options during the open enrollment period, picking a plan based on coverage and costs to meet their healthcare needs. Increasing the price or eliminating coverage of a drug during the plan year could force cancer patients to switch off their current medications. This could result in adverse health outcomes including negative side effects, treatments that are less effective, and reduced medication adherence. Please sign this legislation to help cancer patients and others get the coverage they paid for. I look forward to your reply.
Sincerely,[Your Name] [Your Address] [City, State ZIP][Your Email]
