Constituent Request: Reduce Skin Cancer, Support H. 3807

Dear [Decision Maker],

The World Health Organization has placed tanning devices in its highest cancer risk category (Class 1) - "carcinogenic to humans," the same category as tobacco products. We don't allow children in South Carolina to smoke with parental consent, why would we allow them to use tanning devices?

The greatest avoidable risk factor for melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, is the use of indoor tanning devices. In the U.S., more than 6,000 cases of melanoma annually, can be attributed to indoor tanning. Unfortunately, the desire for a tanned appearance still causes many people, especially teenagers, to ignore the serious consequences and health warnings associated with using indoor tanning devices.

This is your opportunity to save lives. Vote "yes" on H 3807! Thank you for making cancer prevention and the health of our children a priority in our South Carolina.
