Dear [Decision Maker],

Please protect Montana youth by voting YES on SB 21, a bill to prohibit tanning bed use by kids under 18 and reduce rates of skin cancer.

Use of a tanning bed before the age of 35 can increase the likelihood of developing melanoma, the deadliest type of skin cancer, by up to 59%.

Additionally, please resist any amendments related to parental consent. Laws that allow parents to give written consent or accompany youth to tanning salons are not associated with reduced use, which would render the legislation ineffective.

Laws that prohibit the use of tanning beds by those under 18 successfully reduce the use of tanning beds by minors. We can't protect Montana youth from everything, but we can protect them from indoor tanning.

Please vote yes on SB 21 without parental consent amendments which would render the law ineffective at preventing future incidences of skin cancer.

Sincerely,
