Vote Yes on HB 421 To Prevent Skin Cancer

Dear [Decision Maker],

As your constituent, I am asking for you to please vote YES on House Bill 421 to help prevent skin cancer by prohibiting the use of indoor tanning devices by anyone under age 18.

Indoor tanning beds are classified in the same cancer-causing category as tobacco and asbestos. There is clear evidence demonstrating a link between indoor tanning beds and melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer. Risk for melanoma increases with the number of total hours, sessions, and years that indoor tanning devices are used - and those who start tanning before the age of 35 are at 59% higher risk of melanoma, with a 67% higher risk of squamous cell carcinoma and a 29% higher risk of basal cell carcinoma. When women under thirty use indoor tanning beds, they are six times more likely to be diagnosed with melanoma.

I hope I can count on you to vote yes on HB 421 to help prevent skin cancer in New Mexico and protect our kids.
