Support SB 248 to raise the tobacco sale age to 21
Dear [Decision Maker],
As a volunteer for the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, and your constituent, I am writing to ask you to please support SB 248: An Act increasing the age for sales and possession of tobacco products.
SB 248 would prohibits stores from selling cigarettes, e-cigarettes and other tobacco products to people under age 21 by increasing the statewide age of sale for tobacco products from 18 to 21. This is critical in the state because- 23.8% of high school students in New Hampshire use e-cigarettes, more than the national average; - almost half of 8th grade students and two thirds of 10th grade students say it's easy to get cigarettes from older siblings and acquaintances; and - New Hampshire spends $729 million annually on health care costs directly caused by smoking.
The statistics are clear: 95% of all adult smokers began smoking before or at age 21. Please support SB 248 to protect New Hampshire youth from a lifelong addiction to a deadly product.I look forward to your support on this important issue.
Sincerely,[Your Name] [Your Address] [City, State ZIP][Your Email]
