Vote Yes on SB2847

Dear [Decision Maker],

As your constituent, I am asking you to vote YES on SB2847 to help prevent skin cancer by prohibiting the use of indoor tanning devices by all children 17 and under. It's important to pass this bill without any amendments that would leave teens unprotected.

Indoor tanning beds are classified in the same cancer-causing category as tobacco and asbestos. There is clear evidence demonstrating a link between indoor tanning beds and melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer. Risk for melanoma increases with the number of total hours, sessions, and years that indoor tanning devices are used - and those who start tanning before the age of 35 are at 59% higher risk of melanoma, with a 67% higher risk of squamous cell carcinoma and 29% higher risk of basal cell carcinoma.

Indoor tanning by women under age 30 places them at a six times higher risk for melanoma. Melanoma is currently the second most common cancer among females aged 15-29 in the U.S.

I hope I can count on you to vote Yes on SB2847 to help prevent skin cancer in Mississippi and protect our children.
