Support SB 248 to raise the tobacco sale age to 21
Dear [Decision Maker],
As a volunteer for the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, I am writing to ask you to please support SB 248: An Act increasing the age for sales and possession of tobacco products.
SB 248 would increase the statewide age of sale for tobacco products, including e-cigarettes, from 18 to 21. This is critical in the state because: -23.8% of high school students in New Hampshire use e-cigarettes, more than the national average; -almost half of 8th grade students and two thirds of 10th grade students say it's easy to get cigarettes from older siblings and acquaintances; and -New Hampshire spends $729 million annually on health care costs directly caused by smoking.
The statistics are clear: 95% of all adult smokers began smoking before or at age 21. Please support SB 248 and protect New Hampshire youth from a lifelong addiction to a deadly product.I look forward to hearing from you on this important issue.
Sincerely,[Your Name] [Your Address] [City, State ZIP][Your Email]
