Dear [Decision Maker],

As a volunteer for the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, I ask for you to support LB 140, which would prohibit all children under 18 from using tanning devices.

Skin cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the United States, and rates have been rising for the past 30 years. The greatest avoidable known risk factor for skin cancer is the use of indoor tanning devices. In the U.S., more than 6,000 cases of melanoma can be attributed to indoor tanning annually.

Laws that allow parental consent to children or adolescents to use indoor tanning devices or to accompany them to tanning salons are not associated with reduced use of indoor tanning devices among youth.

I appreciate you listening to my concerns and hope you will support LB 140 that prohibits any child under 18 from using indoor tanning devices.
