Dear [Decision Maker],

As a constituent and a volunteer with the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN), I am asking you to support medication synchronization (HB 195) to improve access to care for cancer patients.

Many times, a combination of drug therapies is needed to treat cancer and relieve symptoms from the disease, as well as side-effects from treatment. Yet multiple trips to the pharmacy and multiple drug copays can be a significant barrier to care. Medication synchronization is a critical tool in increasing medication adherence and improving the quality of life for cancer patients by streamlining this process into one monthly pharmacy visit and is already law in 35 states.

It is estimated that 21% of Americans use three or more medications and 10% take five or more medications. A study by Harvard Medical School found that when medications were not synchronized, patients had adherence rates that were 8.4% lower than patients for whom medications were synchronized.

I urge you to support HB 195 as a positive step towards patient-centered coordinated care that can improve quality of life for cancer patients and their families.

Thank you,
