Please raise Indiana's tobacco tax by $2
Dear [Decision Maker],
As your constituent, I am asking you to support an increase on the tax on packs of cigarettes - something 70% of Hoosiers support.
Tobacco is a burden on Indiana's physical and economic health. Each year more than 11,000 Hoosiers die from tobacco use, more than 3,000 kids become addicted smokers, and Hoosier employers lose billions in health care costs and lost productivity.
We cannot delay any longer.
By raising the cigarette tax by $2, we can help 70,000 Hoosiers quit smoking, add $360 million in new revenue to the state budget and save Indiana businesses would $22 a day per smoking employee.
Please take action to ease Indiana's tobacco burden. A $2 cigarette tax increase is overwhelmingly supported by Hoosiers and I hope you will also support a $2 increase in 2019.
