Please Support the Motion to Update the County's Tobacco Retail Licensing (TRL) Policy

Dear [Decision Maker],

As a Los Angeles County resident, I am asking you to support the motion by Supervisors Ridley-Thomas and Hahn to update the County's Tobacco Retail Licensing (TRL) policy.

The motion being considered to restrict tobacco retailers from locating near areas where kids are commonly present (such as schools, parks and youth centers) and also regulate the sale of flavored tobacco products, including e-cigarettes is an important part of a comprehensive strategy to help reduce youth smoking. The tobacco industry has long targeted marketing of their products to youth and now with the rising trend of adolescent use of flavored tobacco products, action is needed to address this troubling problem.

> The earlier youth are exposed to tobacco products, the less likely it is they will be able to quit.

> Most youth begin with flavored products, which even the tobacco industry calls, "starter products."

> Tobacco products are available in kid friendly candy and fruit flavors like bubblegum, cotton candy, strawberry and gummy bear.

Please Support the motion to update the County's Tobacco Retail Licensing Policy to encourage a generation of tobacco-free kids in Los Angeles County.

Sincerely,
