In 2006, Texas voters established the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT). Since 2010, CPRIT has provided annual grants totaling $270 million to support cancer research and $30 million to support cancer screenings and prevention programs.
CPRIT will exhaust its voter-approved funding by 2022, with a sharp decline beginning in 2020, jeopardizing Texas' role as a leader in the fight against cancer. The Texas Legislature must act during the 2019 legislative session to prevent what would be a devastating loss of momentum for research, prevention and screening programs.
Ask your state lawmakers to make funding cancer research and prevention a top priority.
Please support funding for CPRIT
Dear [Decision Maker],
Please continue funding for the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT).
We know that cutting edge cancer research is leading to improved treatments that have the potential to improve and even save the lives of millions of Texans. Without your action, the state of Texas stands to lose its distinction as the second-largest funder of cancer research in the nation. This will prevent us from finding innovative treatments and cut off funding for screening and prevention programs that touch every county in Texas.
As your constituent, I urge you to support CPRIT funding, ensuring Texas remains a leader in the fight against cancer. With your help, Texas can continue to lead the way.
Sincerely,[Your Name] [Your Address] [City, State ZIP][Your Email]
