Restore full funding for lifesaving cancer screenings!
Dear [Decision Maker],
Approximately 110,000 New Yorkers will be diagnosed with cancer this year in New York and over 34,000 will die. Screening increases the chances of detecting certain cancers early, when they are most likely to be curable. For many, early detection is the difference between being a survivor or a statstic. That's why it is critically important that you restore full funding of $25.3 million for the New York Cancer Services Program (CSP) in 2018-19. This lifesaving program was cut by 21% in 2017.
The CSP provides uninsured New Yorkers with access to breast, cervical, and colorectal cancer screenings. In the past year, 28,510 New York residents received a screening thanks to the CSP.
We cannot balance the budget by cutting funding for cancer screenings for those who can least afford them. I urge you to restore the full $25.3 million in funding for the CSP in the FY18-19 budget.
Sincerely,[Your Name] [Your Address] [City, State ZIP]
