Make cancer a top priority in New Jersey
Dear [Decision Maker],
This week, volunteers are meeting with their representatives in district offices across New Jersey to discuss ways in which we can work together to reduce the burden of cancer in our state. As your constituent, I urge you to support the below initiatives which will continue to build upon our state's commitment to combating this terrible disease, saving lives and reducing future health care expenditures.
* Leveraging approximately one percent of tobacco tax revenues to allocate $7 million to the state tobacco program, which will provide valuable resources to help tobacco users to quit and youth not to start.* Supporting a $2 million allocation in the FY2018 state budget for the NJ Commission on Cancer Research (NJCCR), which provides cancer research fellowships to scientists conducting basic cancer research at academic institutions throughout New Jersey.* Supporting the maintenance of the current $9.5 million in state funding in the FY2018 budget for the NJ Cancer Education and Early Detection (NJ CEED) screening program.
Each of these priorities represents an important step that we can make toward reducing New Jersey's cancer rate, helping to identify cancers at their earliest - and often most treatable - stage, and ensuring that cancer patients are adequately supported from a public standpoint as they battle this devastating disease.I look forward to hearing from you on these important issues.
Sincerely,[Your Name] [Your Address] [City, State ZIP][Your Email]
