Dear  [Decision Maker],

I am writing to support a bill (A-3338/S-862) that would dedicate 1% of the state's tobacco tax to fund a program to prevent kids from tobacco use and help adults quit, which recently passed the Assembly 71-0. The legislation is now pending in the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee.

This year alone in New Jersey, 5,400 children will become new daily smokers. The first step toward a deadly, life-long addiction.

Investing in tobacco prevention and cessation will mean less tobacco related disease and reduced health care expenses for New Jersey. Last year alone, tobacco use cost our state over $4 billion in direct health care costs, including $1.17 billion in Medicaid.

Chairman Sarlo, I urge you to post A-3338/S-862 for a vote at the next Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee hearing.
