Dear [Decision Maker],
I am writing to support a bill (A-3338/S-862) that would dedicate 1% of the state's tobacco tax to fund a program to prevent kids from tobacco use and help adults quit, which recently passed the Assembly 71-0. The legislation is now pending in the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee.
This year alone in New Jersey, 5,400 children will become new daily smokers. The first step toward a deadly, life-long addiction.Investing in tobacco prevention and cessation will mean less tobacco related disease and reduced health care expenses for New Jersey. Last year alone, tobacco use cost our state over $4 billion in direct health care costs, including $1.17 billion in Medicaid.
Chairman Sarlo, I urge you to post A-3338/S-862 for a vote at the next Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee hearing.
Sincerely,[Your Name] [Your Address] [City, State ZIP][Your Email]
