Increase the tobacco purchase age to 21
Dear [Decision Maker],
Connecticut youth have big dreams, but Big Tobacco has other plans. Each year the tobacco industry spends more than $80 million on marketing tobacco products in our state, in part to entice the next generation of smokers. Big Tobacco knows that 95% of adult smokers begin smoking before they turn 21.
A study by the Institute of Medicine predicted that raising the minimum age of sale of tobacco products from 18 to 21 could decrease the prevalence of smoking by 12% saving thousands of lives and millions of dollars.
Please increase the minimum tobacco sales age to protect Connecticut's youth and keep them from becoming the next generation of smokers.
Sincerely,[Your Name] [Your Address] [City, State ZIP][Your Email]
